MECHANICAL ENGINEER

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  1. Perform mechanical engineering design and prototyping of asphalt plants and equipment (such as batch mix and dratch hybrid plants, drum mixers, controls houses, warm mix systems, fuel storage, material handling, and control systems) supplied to the asphalt industry

  2. Develop and test various asphalt plant and equipment models and alternate designs using mechanical engineering testing procedures such as fatigue testing, tensile testing, and model validation in order to assess sustainability and operation effects

  3. Prepare asphalt plant and equipment design, installation, and operation based on mechanical engineering principles to ensure both client and governmental regulatory specifications are met and operating at full capacity

  4. Evaluate potential new applications for prototypes and beta asphalt plant and equipment while testing for feasibility, design, operation, and performance

  5. Ensure continuous improvement and quality control of existing asphalt plant and equipment products and design

  6. Examine asphalt plant and equipment design difficulties or failures to diagnose faulty operations and recommend remedial actions in order to implement timely, effective, and efficient mechanical engineering resolutions

  7. Research and analyze customer design proposals and specifications to determine feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements for asphalt plant and equipment

  8. Coordinate activities and confer with other mechanical engineers and validation engineers to implement engineering design procedures and resolve any design problems of asphalt plant and equipment

A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technologies, or Industrial Engineering is required (A foreign educational equivalent is acceptable). This position requires little domestic travel (1 to 2 weeks per year) throughout the Midwestern United States to visit customer sites.
